If you’ve made the decision to go back to school, but can’t make the time commitment that a traditional university requires, then finding an online university may be the perfect solution. Choosing an online college is a big decision to make, and is one that requires plenty of thought and research beforehand. There are a lot of different factors to look at when you start comparing different schools, and these five things are some of the most important to consider before making your final decision:

Accreditation: It’s important to find an accredited university because it shows that the school is a legitimate college to attend. Being accredited means that an independent party has come and evaluated the school and found it to be a good school that offers a quality education.

Tuition Costs: Are the fees reasonable? Are they comparable to other similar colleges? Are they up front with their fees? Be on the lookout for any hidden fees or costs that seem unnecessarily high. You don’t want to end up overpaying for your degree.

Degree Programs: Does the college offer the degree plan you’re interested in obtaining? Is it known for having a particularly good degree program? Research several different schools so that you can find one that has a good reputation for the degree program you’re pursuing. With so many options for online universities, there’s bound to be one that fits your needs.

Positive Reviews: Are other students happy with their experience with the university, or were they upset over the quality of education that they received? Seek out as many reviews as possible so that you can get a good feel for the college.

Graduation Rates: Does the school boast high graduation success? You’ll want to find a college that is known for its high graduation rates because it shows that they are invested in the success of their students.

Be selective when you begin your search for an online college to attend; there are plenty of schools out there, so you should make sure that all of your needs are being met and that you aren’t settling for less than what you deserve. Your education is a huge investment in your future, so you want to make sure that you receive the best schooling possible.

You have a deadline to meet. But instead of doing your work, you find yourself enjoying the things that are unnecessary like blogging or checking your social media accounts. Well, this is called procrastination. You know that you have to get things done but you are not doing anything often because you don’t feel like doing them. In other words, it only causes delay. Don’t let until it gets into your systems. So to stop procrastinating, here are the ways.

Stop Procrastinating in Ten Easy Ways

1. Creating a to-do list, literally and not mentally, is the best way to manage your time and to escape from procrastinating. By writing your tasks down, you will gain back your focus. But make it as realistic as you can. Some interruptions will always be possible. Having things planned will make things a lot easier.

2. Break your task into pieces and then start doing it one by one. In this manner, it will become more manageable.

3. Of course, things will not get done if you don’t make any move though you have realistically planned everything. So set deadlines. By imposing short-term deadlines to your yourself, you will get the whole job completed. However, taking a constant break every after a completed task will also prevent you from getting burned out.

4. It is also important to be pushed by someone to stay on track, but not in a way of being pressured. Sometimes, we need that constant reminder to avoid procrastinating and getting lost.

5. Do not focus on the journey but on the destination. Painting a clear picture in mind of the completed task will drive you more to the result. So aside from complaining about the task, think how fulfilling it feels when you already have made it.

6. Avoid any distractions such as your television, your cell phone, or anything that can pull you away from the task.

7. Avoid excuses. Just do it. You will only find it hard at first, but when you already see yourself doing it, you will be more motivated as you proceed to the next process step by step.

8. Do not listen to your mood, especially when it’s telling you that you don’t feel like doing anything. It will only result to regrets and disappointments.

9. Know your commitment and stay committed. And when you commit, mean it.

10. Having that reward system is indeed very rewarding. Sometimes, you need to reward yourself for a job well done.
When you procrastinate, you only get things done when you are already panicking. Actually, things will hardly get done when you you procrastinate. Instead of putting your foot forward on important things, you prefer to waste your extra time. That’s why you end up cramming for deadlines. And it is even not a good habit to practice. It will only eat you up. So get out of your comfort zone and practice the said ways to stop procrastinating.

Tired of pulling all-nighters and cramming for tests? You might be having some trouble managing your time. Here are four things you can try out to help you make better use of your time and do better in school:

1. Use your time in between classes wisely – If you’re like most college students, you probably have some time in between your classes. Instead of going back to your dorm room to take a nap or play video games when you have some free time during the day, head to the school library and spend some time studying. If you get most of your schoolwork done during the day, you’ll feel a lot less pressed for time in the evenings and over the weekends.

2. Use a planner and make to-do lists – As a college student, you’re going to have to meet a lot of deadlines and prepare for a lot of tests. If you’re a working college student, you’re going to have to manage all of your professional and academic priorities, which can be quite tricky. Being a successful student in college often depends on staying organized and planning out your day well. So, use a day planner (paper or electronic) to help you keep track of deadlines, test dates, and professional obligations. And consider regularly making to-do lists to help you accomplish daily and weekly goals.

3. Don’t feel pressured to attend every party – You’re going to be invited to quite a few parties and social events. While you should definitely go to some of them, you shouldn’t necessarily go to all of them, especially if you’re falling behind in school. Your friends will understand if you have to stay in and study. So, don’t be scared to graciously decline their invitations when you have an important assignment to complete or test to prepare for. On the other hand, don’t deprive yourself of a social life in college in pursuit of the highest GPA possible. It’s all about balance. If you make time for your schoolwork, your friends, and yourself, you’ll have a much easier time managing your stress.

4. Prioritize – If you spend most of your time doing work for your favorite (and easiest) class, you’ll probably find that you fall behind in your other classes. Make sure you prioritize your tasks well and realistically, and try to complete your most difficult and time-consuming tasks first. Studying for the calculus test you’re afraid you won’t pass before you write a one-page paper for your art history class is a good idea. You don’t want to lose steam after you complete all of your simplest tasks and not have enough energy or time to complete your most difficult and important tasks.

There are a lot of stressors in a college student’s life. There’s no need to make your life more taxing by managing your time inefficiently. So, try out the tips above, set realistic goals for yourself, and enjoy your fun and exciting college career!

There are seemingly endless things to consider when entering college as an unknowing and inexperienced freshman. For many, this is their first time living on their own and away from home. College comes with a lot of new experiences and a lot of new challenges. As a freshman student, new to both colligate academics and dorm life, things can be a little daunting. While nerves are certainly going to exist, don’t let them get the best of a new and exciting situation. College is an important and enlightening period of life. Embrace your newness to the world of higher education. No doubt, people will offer you endless tips and tricks for “surviving” college your freshman year. Many of these tidbits may come in handy, but these four tips are essential elements of completing and succeeding as a college freshman.

Go to School Functions (Seriously)

By the time senior year of high school rolls around, most 17 and 18 year olds are “over” their high school scene and itching to get on the college campus. This means, in many ways you’ve checked out of many school events. Your thoughts are on other things this time—there’s less need for school functions. Don’t make the mistake of taking this mindset with you to your freshman year of college. Try to do all of the orientation events and school functions you can your freshman year. I made the mistake of being “too cool” for school spirit my freshman year. In the end, I missed out on a lot of fun events and on opportunities to meet more of my classmates. Use freshman orientation events to meet new people—push your boundaries and get into things.

Get to Know Your Roommate and Residence Hall

The roommate is possibly one of the biggest and most exciting concerns college freshman have when they start out. Students will obsess over who they will room with for the next year of school. What will they be like? Will we get along? Will we have anything in common? Take the time to really get to know your roommate early on. You’re going to be sharing close quarters with the person for the next several months—you might as well be friends. In many cases, freshman roommates and hall mates become a person’s closest friends throughout their college experience. Do things as a group with your hall. You’re all new to this experience—explore new things and situations together. Having that support system can be huge when you find yourself missing home, struggling with classes, or just in need of a real friend.

Actually Talk with Your Professors

This was the best academic tip I ever received as a college student. For the first two years of my colligate career I was terrified to talk to my professors. Once I overcame that fear, I came to enjoy my academic experience significantly more and I was able to understand concepts much more thoroughly. There are few things better than having a real, deep conversation about something you love with someone you look up to and knows more on the topic than anyone else. The advice: talk to your professors. Just do it. Ask them questions in class. Discuss topics of interest with them during office hours. Developing a professional relationship with your professors is a wonderful way to learn more about a subject and gain valuable insights.

Focus on Balance

Balance is the number one thing college students should seek their freshman year—and throughout the rest of their academic lives for that matter. College is just as much about discovering your passion academically and extending your education as it is about discovering who you are and creating new life experiences. Find a way to balance your college days between academics and social happenings. Try not to tip too far in either direction. There are going to be times that you need to focus solely on the academics, but don’t let that make you lose sight of the social lessens you gain in college. It’s also extraordinarily important to find time for just yourself within your social and academic lives. Be sure that you are taking time to yourself to relax and reflect.

One of the most common arguments that students make when studying math in primary school is questioning how the math they learn can apply to their everyday lives. It’s not exactly hard to see where this argument comes from. Math can seem inaccessible at times when it’s presented as raw numbers and equations. Teachers and educators have struggled for decades to find ways to make math meaningful for students. As educators we seek to provide our students with problems, exercises, and examples that demonstrate the many different applications of math to everyday life. Of course, math is an essential component of our everyday lives as adults. Starting those important math lessons at a young age and building a confidence with numbers and calculations is very important. Use these online tools and sites to demonstrate the relevance of math in the real world while also teaching relevant skills.

Lemonade Stand Game

Money is one of the most obvious and important connections that kids can make between the math they learn in school and their everyday lives. Lemonade Stand is a classic computer game that helps students understand and manage money in a safe and educational way. This game is best for younger students approaching basic math and money for the first time. Students are given 20 dollars to set up a virtual lemonade stand in a neighbor’s yard. Each day, they must decide how many cuts of lemonade to make, how much money to charge for each cup, and how much to spend on advertising their lemonade. These price calculations are based on the cost to produce the lemonade and the weather forecast. Over a 25 day period, students will either build a lemonade business that thrives or they’ll go broke. With this game, students can apply their in-school math knowledge to running a business.

Online Math Applications-Trips

This online tool helps students explore the world of math as it relates to cars and driving. This is a wonderful tool for young high school students and even middle school students, who are beginning to think of the freedom of a driver’s license of their own. This site gives students math equations looking at gas mileage, trip distances, and car types. Teachers and educators can use this tool as an introduction to several different important lessons about the real world and math. Students can learn to calculate how much money they will spend on gas, how many miles different tanks of gas can get them, what types of trips are the least and most expensive, and much more. This can be a great lesson in the real world and in math.

Real World Math Skills- the Credit Card

This lesson explores the world of credit and credit cards in relation to mathematics. Students of all ages, ranging from young middle school to older high school, can benefit from this lesson. With this online lesson plan students learn how to understand and decipher credit card statements as well as how to balance a credit card statement. This math activity asks students to figure the daily interest paid on a credit card by following the instructions provided in the worksheet. Students will calculate the interest for various credit balances, providing a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the nature of credit cards in general as well as how to deal with the math involved with them. It’s never too early to start a discussion about safe money practices and practical credit use.

Are Online Classes Right For You? Five Things to Consider

Online classes have become increasingly popular in recent years, both for students enrolled in completely online degree programs, but also for students earning their degrees in traditional brick and mortar programs.

Online courses are able to supplement traditional classes for those students attending in person universities, oftentimes allowing them access to classes that would otherwise be unavailable due to being completely filled up by other students.

But the convenience of being able to study anywhere there’s an internet connection and the convenience of escaping commuting to class are also major benefits, making online learning more popular than ever. However, keep in mind that the online learning format is not the best mode of learning for everyone.

It takes a certain type of student to excel in college classes online, so to be sure that you’re making the right decision, ask yourself the following questions before you consider enrolling in an online class:

Do You Have Regular Access to the Internet?

Ideally, online students should own a computer or laptop, but as long as you regularly have access to the internet, you should be ok. An online class is typically taught and tested 100% online, so it’s essential that you have reliable access to the internet in order to succeed in this format. If you don’t have a computer of your own, ask your friends if you could use theirs for school duties, or visit your school or local library to see if you can get regular access to their machines.

Do You Have Good Time Management Skills?

Online classes require far more discipline and time organization than regular classes, since everything is entirely up to you. There won’t be a professor or teacher reminding you during class that there’s an assignment coming up, that you have a test next week, or that you need to read the course materials each night. All that you will have to guide you through your coursework is a syllabus and email contact information for your instructors. You will need to maintain a regular schedule without any external support, and you should be prepared to utilize time management skills to effectively keep up with your academic calendar.

Can You Work Independently?

A lot of people think that online courses are easier than in-person classes, but this can often be far from the truth. Online classes require students to work independently, which involves immense self-motivation and of course self-discipline, which poses major problems for some students. If you have trouble sticking to the syllabus, keeping up with traditional course schedules, and completing your assignments on time, then an online class probably isn’t right for you. However, if you work well independently and you don’t need reminders to remain on track to complete assignments and projects, then an online class could be your perfect learning style.

Are You a Quick Learner?

If you’re a quick learner then online classes will likely be a breeze, but if you need new concepts to be orally explained to you multiple times before you get them, then you may find online classes to be entirely too challenging. While studying in a traditional classroom, take note of your learning style and think about how well you would do if there wasn’t a teacher available to answer your immediate questions. Do you rely heavily on the teacher to explain course materials, or do you typically understand them from the book itself? Use the answers to these questions to determine how suitable an online class would be for you.

Can You Follow Written Instructions Easily?

Some students are oral learners, while others are prefer visual display and still others learn best from reading. If reading is your preferred method for taking in new material, then studying online could be an ideal fit for you. However, if you struggle to understand written instructions, online classes could be an unsuitable choice leading to a great deal of frustration. Most online classes are predominantly based around written instructions, so it’s important that you can process and understand these with ease.

No education format is perfect for everyone, and this is certainly true of online courses as well. Some people thrive on this learning method, whereas others struggle with it. Avoid disastrous results by reviewing your answers to the above questions to help guide you toward the right educational path. Good luck!

Definition of learning, with time has undergone a paradigm shift. Thanks, to the technological advancements and communication development, learning is no longer restricted to or is confined within the four walls of classroom, better defined as the conventional approach of education. Today, the reach has travelled beyond geographical boundaries and other barriers to set foot in everybody’s world at no hassle.

Yes indeed, the advancements of new age learning approaches like, distance learning, online education, homeschooling, etc has opened a wide platform for the career-oriented individuals in offering them the scope to take up education anytime and anywhere without any compromises to enhance the career advancements prospects. Online education has laid for the careerists the wonderful opportunity of taking their education forward, even in the presence of personal and professional responsibilities.

Now, if you might ask about the effects that the new age learning approach has brought upon the individual, the answers will be many. Primarily, pursuing an online learning program allows the career-oriented individuals to schedule learning at his or her pace within their own time-frame without the commitments of regular study schedule. Additionally, a student willing to pursue an online distance learning MBA in UK can readily enroll for the program, even within other obligations and commitments without much worry.

While, enrolling for an online education program allows the career enthusiasts to color their dreams in their own way, the choice of homeschooling allows them to build up an educational ambiance catering to their own needs. With the introduction of new age learning approaches that have promoted the need of students more than the needs of teachers or society all, learning is embraced with an open heart in all corners of the world.

The conventional mode of education, on the other hand, cannot be completely ruled out from its place of priority, as it allows not only educational, but also social growth of an individual alongside personality development and evolution of other vocational skills. With change being apparent in the world of education, the choice of embracing learning is best left upon the students of today – the future of tomorrow.
